In BriefPew Research center has released statistics that answers the question whether scientists who do research have different views than the public. Spoiler: they do.
- The starkest difference is whether it’s safe to eat genetically modified foods. 88 percent of American Association for the Advancement of Scientists think so, but only 37 percent of the public believe that.
- It’s also interesting that 47 percent of scientists surveyed believe astronauts are “essential for the future of the U.S. space program,” a lower percentage of the 59 percent of the public who believes that.
- The study looked at 3,748 AAAS members as well as 1627 working Ph. D. scientists. The public was surveyed by telephone in August 2014.
