Reality of Global Warming
Despite opinions to the contrary, the Earth has been warming. According to NASA, 97% of climate scientists agree that global warming is a reality. Recently released data from the past year further corroborates this.
413 scientists from 58 countries have contributed to a report compiled by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Center for Weather and Climate demonstrating warming trends from data collection systems all over the world and in space. Major greenhouse concentrations (carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide) continued to increase, the average sea surface temperatures reached a record-breaking high, sea level was the highest it ever has been (again), and the arctic continued to increase in average temperature.
The Earth is warming at a concerning rate. Life for many species, including our own, will continue to be altered because of these rising temperatures. 25% of Earth’s species could face extinction by 2050 at these rates of increase. Alarmingly, it is believed global warming makes for more devastating storms and sea levels could rise to submerge heavily populated metropolitan areas.
